Dear ABC "episodes" website, I wanted to let you know that your website sucks because:

We only have Ubuntu, Edubuntu, PCLOS, and Fedora Linux in our home. This is the only way to ensure we don't catch viruses from the Internet which are targeted at the Windows OS.

ABC "episodes" doesn't work on Linux (at least not that I can see, if I'm wrong please correct me) and so it sucks, badly. By committing this evil act, you are discounting a very large group of people that use computers. Please make your "Episodes" service available to Linux users.

So ABC "epi…

Dear Airlink101

Please help to make the Airlink 101 AWLL3028 USB wireless adapter work properly with Linux.

A fellow blogger has posted the story "Giving up on Linux wireless with the Airlink 101 AWLL3028" concerning having problems getting this hardware to work with Linux. This problem needs to be fixed.

Many users are using Linux out there and so please, please either make a Linux driver for this device or work with the "Free Linux Driver Development" project to get one made for you.

Dear Mr. Langa, Please Reevaluate Linux - it's awesome

02-05-08

Dear Mr. Langa,

Since I first became interested in computers your newsletter has been an awesome resource for me. Thank You!

I remember getting my site "http://unexplained.at/wagnerclan" posted as a shared link in your newsletter (back in the late 90's), wow did I get a lot of traffic!!

So I'm writing because I am now a technology professional who started on Windows and have since switched completely over to Linux and I would like it if you could perform another detailed review of the Linux Operating System (Probably of the Ubuntu Gutsy or Fedora 8 varieties (to name a few) since they are distros that have been updated most recently and will likely provide the best functionality).

I see that you did an article on using Linux LiveCDs back in 2005 - located here: http://www.langa.com/newsletters/2005/2005-01-31.htm#2
And I also see an article on InformationWeek.com speaking of Linux in 2003: http://www.informationweek.com/story/IWK20030124S0013

My List of PCs that "Just Work" (out of the box) with Ubuntu Gutsy 7.10

Since I'm a Technical Professional I get the awesome opportunity to put hands on new systems that are destined to be issued to users.

Armed with a fresh copy of Ubuntu 7.10, I'm always booting up systems to the LiveCD just to see if the core components will work well without modification. My list of "core components" includes the following:
Basic System FunctionalityGraphicsSoundNetworking (wired/wireless)Hard Drive FunctionalitySo here are the results of my tests so far:

Systems that work perfectly without modification:
hp Compaq 2510p ultraportable laptop
hp Compaq 6710b laptop
hp Compaq nc6320 laptop

(update 03-04-08)Note: In response to a recent comment, I highly recommend Dell for use with Linux systems simply for the fact that Dell is already selling systems with Ubuntu Linux on them(including the XPS M1330 and Inspiron 1525 notebooks and the Inspiron 530 desktop). Go Dell! The small list I've compiled above is only the systems that I've…

This Website Works With Linux (WWWL) Campaign

So I was feeling thankful this morning. I was sitting at my Linux box and thinking to myself, "Wow this bank website works perfectly with my Ubuntu Linux machine." And I am thankful for this. I am thankful that the greedy monopolists of the world have not been able to grasp a choking hand onto the Internet that exists because it is free.

About 99.8% of the websites I ever surf to work just fine with Linux. This is monumental and of chief significance.

Such is proof - the Internet is made up of widely used standards. Most people take this for granted. Not me, I know that if the Internet was driven by a single profiteering company or even a group of monopolists that wanted to block out true standards and try to steal the market to get ever richer, the Internet would not be the lifeblood that it is now.
